We are thrilled to share that both Down with the Poor! by Shumona Sinha (trans. Teresa Lavender Fagan) and Eastbound by Maylis de Kerangal (trans. Jessica Moore) are two of the five finalists for the Fiction category of the French-American Translation Prize 2024, in a year which saw a record number of submissions.

First published in English by Les Fugitives in 2022, both Down with the Poor! and Eastbound have garnered critical acclaim, with Down with the Poor listed as one of the New Statesman’s best books of 2022 and Eastbound featuring in end-of year lists including the New York Times’ 10 best books of 2023, the New Yorker’s best books of 2023, and the Financial Times and New Statesman best books of 2022.

We wish both authors and both translators the best of luck when the winner is announced in May.
